Mega Man X DiVE Characters Guide: Complete Offline Roster, Tier List, Unlocks, and Best Builds
One of the best things about mega man x dive characters is how ridiculous the roster eventually became. X and Zero are obviously here, but the game goes much further than the Mega Man X series. You can play as MegaMan.EXE, Tron Bonne, Ciel, Aile, Star Force Mega Man, Bass, Sigma, RiCO, iCO, ViA, and dozens of alternate forms that would never normally share the same game.
Mega Man X DiVE Offline makes that roster much easier to enjoy because there is no gacha. Characters are unlocked through progression, shops, events, and Character Memories, so you can eventually build whoever you want without waiting for a banner.
There is one important distinction, though. The original online version and Mega Man X DiVE Offline do not have exactly the same roster or meta. Online had PvP, raids, cooperative content, limited banners, and crossover characters. Offline is a permanent single-player version with roughly 120 Hunter Programs and no competitive PvP. That means an old online “SS-tier PvP character” may not be the best investment for Offline story stages, bosses, or Jakob Elevator.
This guide focuses primarily on Mega Man X DiVE Offline, while preserving online PvP rankings as historical context.
I. Mega Man X DiVE Characters Overview
A. What Are Hunter Programs?
Hunter Programs are the playable Mega Man X DiVE characters.
Within the Deep Log story, they are recreated character data that RiCO and the player can use to repair corrupted game information. That explanation allows characters from completely different Mega Man timelines to appear together without worrying too much about canon.
Every Hunter Program has two unique active skills and a collection of passive abilities. Characters can also equip weapons, DiVE Cards, Boss Chips, and other progression systems.
One unusual feature is that weapons are not permanently tied to characters. X can use a saber, Zero can use a buster, and Ciel can equip weapons that she never normally uses in her original series.
B. How to Use This Character Guide
Do not read the tier list as “S tier is playable, everything else is trash.”
Offline is forgiving enough that you can finish most content with characters you genuinely like.
Tier rankings become more useful when you are tackling:
Jakob Elevator Challenge floors.
Late story stages.
High-level bosses.
Race stages.
Hidden Deep Element hunting.
Challenge content where shields, healing, mobility, or full-screen attacks save enormous amounts of time.
C. Online Version vs Mega Man X DiVE Offline
The Capcom Asia/Japan online service ended in September 2023, while the separate global online service later ended as well.
Offline removes:
PvP Battle.
Co-op.
Online raids.
Gacha banners.
Player rankings.
Most other server-dependent systems.
The biggest roster difference is collaboration content. Characters based on Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Devil May Cry are not officially included in Offline.
That means Rathalos Armor X, Crimson Valstrax Zero, Zinogre Iris, Gore iCO, Ryu, Chun-Li, Akuma, X Dante Trigger, Zero Vergil Trigger, and the Monster Hunter hunter programs belong to historical online coverage rather than the official Offline roster.
II. Complete Mega Man X DiVE Character List
A. Roster by Originating Series
The easiest way to understand the huge roster is by franchise.
Mega Man
Playable Hunter Programs include:
Mega Man, Mega Man (Thunder Beam Ver.), Super Mega Man, Roll, Swimsuit Roll, Halloween Roll, Easter Roll, Proto Man, Bass, Super Bass, Bass & Treble, and Dr. Light the Martial Artist.
Mega Man X
This is naturally the biggest group.
Major characters include:
X, Zero, Axl, Alia, Vile, Vile MK-II, Iris, Layer, Pallette, Cinnamon, Marino, Ferham, Massimo, Nana, Sigma, Sigma (X4), Bit, Colonel, Magma Dragoon, Dynamo, Gate, and Zero Nightmare.
Playable X variants include:
First Armor X, Second Armor X, SD Second Armor X, Third Armor X, Fourth Armor X, Ultimate Armor X, Ultimate Armor X (Command Mission), Falcon Armor X, Gaea Armor X, Shadow Armor X, X (Rising Fire Ver.), DiVE Armor X, S-Class Hunter X, and Next DiVE Armor X.
Zero variants include:
Black Zero, Absolute Zero, Awakened Zero, Festive Zero, SD Zero, DiVE Armor Zero, and S-Class Hunter Zero.
The X cast also has separate seasonal Hunter Programs such as Halloween Vile, Halloween Marino, Swimsuit Layer, Swimsuit Ferham, White Day Cinnamon, New Year Cinnamon, Halloween Sigma, and Gangsta Boy Sigma.
Mega Man Legends
MegaMan Volnutt, MegaMan Volnutt Alt., Tron Bonne, Swimsuit Tron, White Tron, Roll Caskett, and Servbot.
Mega Man Battle Network
MegaMan.EXE, MegaMan.EXE Hub Style, Dark MegaMan.EXE, Bass Cross MegaMan, DiVE Cross MegaMan, ProtoMan.EXE, Bass.EXE, Bass GS, Bass XX, and Roll.EXE.
Mega Man Zero
Zero (Z), Ciel, Valentine's Day Ciel, Christmas Ciel, Swimsuit Ciel, Fairy Leviathan, Christmas Leviathan, Festive Leviathan, Harpuia, Copy X, and Omega.
Mega Man ZX
Aile, Halloween Aile, Aile (ZXA), Pandora, and Halloween Pandora.
Mega Man Star Force
Star Force Mega Man, Rogue, and Harp Note.
Mega Man X DiVE Original Characters
RiCO, Christmas RiCO, Valentine's Day RiCO, RiCO Celebration, DiVE Armor RiCO, iCO, Valentine's Day iCO, Swimsuit iCO, Christmas iCO, DiVE Armor iCO, ViA, Halloween ViA, ViA■, Droitclair, Angepitoyeir, Eratoeir, Gangsta Girl Eratoeir, χ-kai-, and Iris -another-.
B. Character Ranks and Variants
Hunter Programs begin as B, A, or S Rank.
That letter is the character's inherent rarity class. It is separate from Star Rank.
Many variants that look like “costumes” are actually entirely separate Hunter Programs.
For example:
First Armor X and Fourth Armor X are separate characters.
Black Zero and Awakened Zero are separate characters.
Christmas iCO and DiVE Armor iCO are separate characters.
C. Characters vs Skins
This distinction is easy to miss.
White Day Zero, for example, is a skin for regular Zero rather than a unique playable Hunter Program.
Command Mission X and X M.K.Ver. are also skins for base X.
By contrast, Shadow Armor X or S-Class Hunter X have their own skills and progression and therefore count as separate characters.
III. Mega Man X DiVE Offline Character Roster
A. Characters Available Offline
Offline includes more than 100 Hunter Programs from across the Mega Man franchise, with roughly 120 playable choices from the original Capcom roster.
That is enough that you can spend an entire playthrough switching characters and still barely touch half of them.
B. Differences From Online
Offline does not include the licensed Capcom crossover Hunter Programs from Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, or Devil May Cry.
The separate NebulaJoy global service also continued adding a handful of characters after the content cutoff used for Offline, so its final roster was slightly larger.
C. Check Availability Before Building
If you find an old tier list recommending Gore iCO or Dante Trigger X, remember that those are online crossover units and are not part of the standard Offline game.
For Offline, characters such as Next DiVE Armor X, DiVE Armor iCO, DiVE Armor RiCO, ViA■, S-Class Hunter Zero, Shadow Armor X, and Gangsta Girl Eratoeir are safer endgame targets.
IV. Mega Man X DiVE Character Tier List
A. Offline Quick-Reference Rankings
My PvE-focused ranking looks roughly like this:
| Tier | Recommended Characters |
|---|---|
| SS | Next DiVE Armor X, ViA■, DiVE Armor iCO, DiVE Armor RiCO, DiVE Armor Iris |
| S | S-Class Hunter Zero, Shadow Armor X, Gangsta Girl Eratoeir, DiVE Cross MegaMan, S-Class Hunter X, Halloween Zero, Celebration RiCO |
| A+ | Black Zero, Super Bass, Christmas iCO, Bass Cross MegaMan, DiVE Armor Zero, Aile (ZXA), ViA |
| A | Falcon Armor X, Awakened Zero, Fourth Armor X, Bass XX, Hub Style MegaMan.EXE, Ferham, Cinnamon |
| B | Most older S/A-rank characters |
| C | Early characters with weak passives or highly specialized kits |
B. Evaluation Criteria
For Offline, I value four things heavily:
Damage.
Survivability.
Mobility.
Screen coverage.
Shields and healing are extremely valuable during Challenge content because enemies can hit very hard regardless of normal Total Power advantages.
C. Why Rankings Change
Online PvP rewarded invulnerability, status immunity, teleport attacks, skill lock, and burst combos.
Offline has no PvP.
That makes mobility, healing, shields, boss damage, and stage-clearing range much more useful than old arena tricks.
V. Best Mega Man X DiVE Characters for Beginners
A. Accessible Early Characters
Black Zero is still one of my favorite beginner investments.
His Raikousen gains defensive utility after ranking up, and the dash itself helps with both combat and exploration.
Cinnamon is another comfortable early choice because sustain and defensive tools make difficult stages less punishing.
Ferham is strong against bosses thanks to close-range pressure.
B. Beginner-Friendly Combat
If you want ranged simplicity, S-Class Hunter X becomes a great later replacement for base X.
For melee, Black Zero or S-Class Hunter Zero feel immediately familiar.
If you prefer safety, use characters with shields or healing instead of chasing maximum DPS.
C. Who to Upgrade First
Do not try to 5-star ten characters immediately.
Pick one early carry such as Black Zero and build that character until stronger endgame Hunter Programs become available.
VI. Best Characters for PvE and Boss Battles
A. Stage Clearing
Next DiVE Armor X is arguably the most ridiculous general PvE character in Offline.
He combines huge damage with broad attack coverage and can erase rooms quickly.
DiVE Armor iCO is another outstanding stage clearer because her attacks cover huge areas and she moves quickly.
B. Boss Damage
Next DiVE Armor X remains excellent.
DiVE Armor Iris is also historically famous for huge boss and raid damage.
Bass Cross MegaMan and Super Bass can put out tremendous single-target pressure.
Gangsta Girl Eratoeir combines good damage with shields and healing, making her particularly comfortable when a boss can actually threaten you.
C. Match the Kit to the Encounter
Pure DPS is not always optimal.
Against spike-heavy platforming, Shadow Armor X can trivialize mechanics.
For awkward vertical collectibles, Falcon Armor X's movement can save more time than a stronger attack kit.
VII. Historical Online PvP Character Rankings
A. Arena Strengths
Late online PvP became dominated by extremely modern Hunter Programs.
Next DiVE Armor X, DiVE Armor Iris, ViA■, DiVE Cross MegaMan, DiVE Armor Axl, Gore iCO, and several crossover units became major threats.
B. Mobility and Survivability
PvP favored characters that could:
Teleport.
Ignore terrain.
Gain shields.
Become invulnerable.
Disable skills.
Remove buffs.
Kill opponents before they could respond.
That environment is very different from fighting AI enemies.
C. Keep PvP Rankings Separate
If a 2022 tier list says ProtoMan.EXE is god-tier, that may be describing his arena performance.
It does not automatically mean he is a better Offline story investment than Next DiVE Armor X or a sustain-heavy PvE character.
VIII. X Characters and Armor Variants
A. First Through Fourth Armor
First Armor X is a nostalgic early S-rank option.
Second Armor X revolves around Stock Charge Shot and Giga Crush-style gameplay.
Third Armor X adds strong classic armor functionality and useful movement options.
Fourth Armor X is one of the smoother traditional X variants and remains enjoyable even if modern DiVE units eventually overpower him.
B. Ultimate, Falcon, Gaea, and Shadow Armor
Ultimate Armor X gives you the classic Plasma Charge Shot and Nova Strike fantasy.
Falcon Armor X is arguably the best exploration X because its movement can bypass awkward platforming.
Gaea Armor X is slower but defensive and uniquely suited to hazardous terrain.
Shadow Armor X is one of my favorite Challenge characters because of its movement gimmicks, spike interaction, and strong attacks.
C. DiVE Armor X vs S-Class Hunter X
S-Class Hunter X is basically the “endgame version” of traditional base X.
DiVE Armor X is much more mechanically modern.
Next DiVE Armor X takes the concept even further and sits firmly among the strongest Offline Hunter Programs.
IX. Zero Characters and Variants
A. Zero, Black Zero, and Awakened Zero
Base Zero is an accessible A-rank melee introduction.
Black Zero is dramatically better and remains one of the strongest early-game investments.
Awakened Zero focuses on enormous slash attacks and classic Genmu Zero-style power.
B. Absolute Zero and Zero Nightmare
Absolute Zero uses the claw-based Command Mission transformation and rewards aggressive close combat.
Zero Nightmare offers a different take on Zero's combat identity and is useful for players who enjoy high-pressure melee.
C. DiVE Armor Zero and S-Class Hunter Zero
DiVE Armor Zero is the more spectacular screen-clearing character.
S-Class Hunter Zero feels closer to classic Zero while giving you much stronger multipliers and mobility.
His additional jump potential also makes him surprisingly good for exploration and Challenge stages.
X. Axl and Other Mega Man X Series Characters
A. Axl, DiVE Armor Axl, Vile, and Sigma
Base Axl is an early ranged character with a tactical roll.
DiVE Armor Axl is far more powerful, with huge laser coverage and rapid repositioning.
Vile focuses on launcher gameplay.
Sigma variants tend to favor raw offense and large attack areas.
B. Iris, Alia, Cinnamon, and Ferham
Iris uses mines and control.
Alia plays like a balanced ranged fighter.
Cinnamon is valuable because defensive and healing-focused tools remain useful throughout PvE.
Ferham specializes in aggressive close-range damage.
C. Investment Needs
Older characters often require higher Star Ranks before their kits feel complete.
Modern DiVE-era Hunter Programs tend to have stronger passive packages once fully developed, which is why they dominate endgame recommendations.
XI. Mega Man Battle Network Characters
A. MegaMan.EXE, ProtoMan.EXE, and Bass.EXE
MegaMan.EXE is a straightforward ranged character.
ProtoMan.EXE combines sword pressure with defensive utility.
Bass.EXE brings explosive damage and Life Aura-style protection.
B. Dark MegaMan.EXE, Hub Style, and DiVE Cross
Hub Style MegaMan.EXE is one of the most flexible characters in the game. His skill options replicate different Program Advances, allowing him to switch between ranged damage, poison/debuff utility, and melee attacks.
Bass Cross MegaMan is excellent for heavy damage.
DiVE Cross MegaMan is the late-generation powerhouse and one of the best Battle Network characters available Offline.
C. Build Considerations
Battle Network characters generally work well with busters and ranged weapons, but several variants also have melee-oriented skills.
Use weapons that complement the range of their active skills instead of forcing every EXE character into the same setup.
XII. Mega Man Legends, Zero, ZX, and Star Force Characters
A. Mega Man Legends
MegaMan Volnutt offers straightforward ranged play.
Tron Bonne uses Servbots and Gustaff-based attacks.
Roll Caskett offers more utility-focused combat.
Servbot is not exactly a top-tier carry, but completing difficult content with one remains extremely funny.
B. Zero and ZX
Ciel relies heavily on support-style abilities and Cyber-elves.
Omega is a hard-hitting melee choice.
Harpuia gives you fast movement and sword pressure.
Aile provides a versatile ZX-style action kit, while Aile (ZXA) is significantly stronger as a late roster option.
C. Star Force
Star Force Mega Man is the iconic representative.
Rogue provides a more aggressive alternative.
Harp Note brings another ranged playstyle.
XIII. Original Mega Man X DiVE Characters
A. RiCO, iCO, and ViA
RiCO begins as the friendly Navigator of the Deep Log and eventually becomes playable in multiple forms.
iCO starts as a more mysterious counterpart and has several extremely strong variants.
ViA fills the veteran-guide role in the story and eventually receives both normal and much stronger forms.
B. Eratoeir and the Original Cast
Droitclair, Angepitoyeir, and Eratoeir are original characters tied deeply into the later Deep Log storyline.
Gangsta Girl Eratoeir is particularly strong in Offline because she combines offense, mobility, shields, and recovery.
C. DiVE Variants
DiVE Armor RiCO and DiVE Armor iCO are among the strongest original Hunter Programs.
ViA■ is another endgame monster.
These characters were designed very late in X DiVE's power curve, so their kits tend to contain more mechanics than early launch characters.
XIV. How to Unlock Characters in Mega Man X DiVE Offline
A. Chapter Progression
Offline removes the gacha.
Instead, you acquire Character Memories.
Once you own enough Memories for a Hunter Program, go to:
Preparation → Character → Analyze
and unlock the character.
B. Events and Memories
Memories can come from shops, stage rewards, event rewards, and other progression systems.
Different shop sections become available as you progress through story and event content.
Late-game characters naturally require more progression before their Memories become practical to obtain.
C. Efficient Unlock Order
My approach is:
Unlock one reliable early carry.
Save resources.
Advance the story.
Unlock strong mobility characters.
Then start buying Memories for endgame Hunter Programs.
Do not burn all your currency trying to collect every S-rank character immediately.
XV. Character Ranks, Star Ranks, and Memory Fragments
A. Letter Rank vs Star Rank
These are different systems.
Letter Rank: B, A, or S.
This is the character's inherent rarity.
Star Rank: 0★ through 5★.
This is your upgrade progression for that specific Hunter Program.
B. Memory Requirements
Unlocking generally requires:
B Rank: 20 Memories.
A Rank: 30 Memories.
S Rank: 40 Memories.
After unlocking, additional Memories increase Star Rank.
Every new star can unlock skill chips, passive abilities, and other character improvements.
C. Upgrade Priorities
Spend Memories on characters you actually use.
A 5★ Black Zero is usually more useful than five random S-rank characters sitting at 0★.
XVI. Character Skills, Passive Abilities, and Builds
A. Active and Passive Skills
Every Hunter Program has two active skills.
Star progression unlocks additional skill chips and passive abilities.
These passives are often the real reason a character becomes powerful.
A seemingly average attack may suddenly grant a shield, heal HP, reduce defenses, penetrate terrain, or reset cooldowns once the appropriate passive is unlocked.
B. Damage, Defense, and Mobility
Damage builds favor offensive cards and weapons.
Defensive builds prioritize shields, healing, and damage reduction.
Mobility characters shine in Race Mode, Deep Element collection, and some Jakob floors.
C. Adjusting Builds
There is no reason to use one setup everywhere.
For bosses, bring sustained single-target damage.
For stage clearing, prioritize piercing or screen-wide attacks.
For Challenge content, healing and shielding become much more valuable.
XVII. Best Weapons and Equipment for Each Character
A. Match Weapons to the Character
Characters can equip almost any weapon type, but their passives may favor certain categories.
If a passive boosts Busters, use a strong Buster.
If it improves melee damage, pair it with a Saber.
B. Close vs Ranged Loadouts
Strong late-game weapon examples include:
Ultimate Blast for Buster users.
Miracle Blade for melee.
Deconstructor for machine-gun clearing.
Light Bender for spray-gun setups.
Fantasia Comet for launcher users.
Characters such as Black Zero naturally feel good with melee weapons, while X variants work comfortably with Busters.
C. Investment Priorities
Build one high-quality weapon of each useful category rather than twenty mediocre weapons.
Remember that weapons are shared between characters, so a good weapon investment improves your entire roster.
XVIII. Best Characters for Jakob Elevator and Exploration
A. Jakob Elevator
Jakob Elevator often values survivability and AoE more than normal story stages.
Next DiVE Armor X is excellent.
Halloween Zero is particularly good when repeated screen-wide damage is useful.
S-Class Hunter Zero and Gangsta Girl Eratoeir are also strong.
B. Mobility and Hidden Elements
For collecting difficult Deep Elements:
Falcon Armor X is arguably the best because of its unusual movement freedom.
S-Class Hunter Zero is excellent thanks to extra jumping potential.
Super Mega Man also offers useful additional vertical mobility.
Shadow Armor X makes certain hazardous areas much easier.
C. Strength vs Exploration
Your strongest combat character is not always your best explorer.
I regularly switch characters simply because Falcon Armor X can reach an awkward collectible more easily than a supposedly SS-tier damage dealer.
XIX. Frequently Asked Questions
A. Who Is the Best Character in Mega Man X DiVE?
For Offline overall, Next DiVE Armor X is my safest answer.
ViA■, DiVE Armor iCO, DiVE Armor RiCO, and DiVE Armor Iris are also top-end options.
B. Which Characters Should Beginners Upgrade First?
Black Zero is one of the best early investments.
Cinnamon and Ferham are also comfortable early choices.
Later, transition into a DiVE Armor or S-Class Hunter Program.
C. How Do You Unlock Characters Offline?
Collect the required Character Memories through shops, stages, and events.
Then use Analyze in the Character menu.
There is no gacha.
D. What Is the Difference Between Character Rank and Star Rank?
Letter Rank—B, A, or S—is the character's base rarity.
Star Rank—0★ to 5★—is the individual upgrade level that unlocks more skills and passives.
E. Which X Armor or Zero Variant Should You Choose?
For X:
Next DiVE Armor X for raw endgame strength.
Falcon Armor X for exploration.
Shadow Armor X for hazard-heavy content.
Ultimate Armor X for classic gameplay.
For Zero:
Black Zero for early progression.
S-Class Hunter Zero for mobility.
DiVE Armor Zero for modern screen-clearing attacks.
Awakened Zero for classic high-damage melee.
F. Can Online Tier Lists Be Used for Offline?
Only partially.
The basic character kits are similar, but old online tier lists were heavily influenced by PvP, raids, DNA systems, temporary balance changes, and crossover characters.
Offline is primarily a PvE game.
Rank characters based on story clearing, bosses, Jakob Elevator, Challenge stages, mobility, shields, and healing instead.
Conclusion
The enormous mega man x dive characters roster is probably the biggest reason Mega Man X DiVE Offline works so well as a preservation project.
Instead of losing years of characters when the online service ended, Capcom turned most of the roster into a permanent single-player collection. X can fight alongside MegaMan.EXE. Zero can share weapons with Tron Bonne. Ciel, Aile, Star Force Mega Man, Sigma, Bass, RiCO, and Servbot can all clear the same stages.
More importantly, Offline removes the pressure that originally surrounded the roster.
You do not need to summon the latest banner.
You do not need to chase a PvP meta.
You do not need to worry that your favorite character will disappear when the server shuts down.
If you only care about power, start with Black Zero during early progression and eventually work toward characters such as Next DiVE Armor X, DiVE Armor iCO, ViA■, DiVE Armor RiCO, S-Class Hunter Zero, or Gangsta Girl Eratoeir.
If you care about exploration, keep Falcon Armor X and Shadow Armor X available.
If you simply want to use your favorite Mega Man character, do that. Offline's biggest strength is that you finally can.
A fully upgraded character with the right weapons, cards, skill chips, and Memories can handle far more content than a simple tier letter suggests. Build a small core first, unlock the late-game monsters when they become available, and then spend the rest of the game experimenting with the roster.
That is where Mega Man X DiVE Offline is at its best—not when you are chasing the strongest unit, but when you realize you have more than a hundred playable pieces of Mega Man history sitting in the same character menu.
